Renowned and much sought after interior designer to the haute monde, John Stefanidis, whose client list reads like an international Who’s Who is to appear on the classic radio programme, Desert Island Discs, on BBC Radio 4 on Sunday, 20th July.
Born and educated in Egypt, John moved to the UK to study at Oxford University. After several years in advertising both in London and Milan, his shift towards a career in interior design began after he bought and renovated a 16th Century house on the Greek island of Patmos in the Dodecanese. In 1967, Stefanidis established his architecture and interior design practice from a studio in Chelsea, London and for the past 40 years has maintained the highest standards of creativity and innovative design. If there is such a thing as a John Stefanidis ‘look’, it would combine a bold and original use of vibrant colour, an eclectic and cosmopolitan aesthetic, great sensitivity to elegant proportions and the client’s requirements and, above all, great comfort with style.
Widely travelled throughout the world, with an easy facility for languages and friendship, John will talk about his life, his travels, the influences behind his designs for the many houses on which he has worked and his fabric and furniture ranges. An amusing raconteur, John selects his 8 favourite pieces of music, a work of literature and a luxury to take with him on his desert island. Listen in to hear his choices!
